Tunis/Alpaca TMS1609
Virginia Fiber farms: Beaucaire Farm, Purcellville; Patchwork Pastures, Luray and alpaca from Bluemont
Fiber content: 66% wool, 34% red alpaca
Yarn character/design: Inspired by the Tunis coloring (lambs born red but wool turns white as they mature keeping red faces and legs), undyed red alpaca was blended with white Tunis for one of the two plys. The very elastic medium type wool gives the alpaca memory. This is a marled yarn, loosely plyed to maintain softness. The knitted ragg texture has a softer color contrast than you would guess looking at the yarn. Dyed using natural dyes and mordants to improve light fastness, but these colors can (probably will…) fade, but fade in beautiful, true to color way. Please protect from light while the label is on.
Yarn size: 2 ply, woolen spun, worsted weight, 11 wraps per inch
Skein size: approximately 120 yards/109 meters; 3.2 oz./90 grams
Suggested needle sizes: US 7-9
Gauge: 4.5 stitches per inch using size 7 (US) needles
Fiber care: Yarn is pre-washed. Finished items hand wash warm/low agitation, lay flat to dry or dry clean.
